(Jungnang = Break News Northeast Gyeonggi) = Jungnang-gu (Gyeonggi Ryu, head of the district) will provide a total of 540 million won in scholarships to 800 selected Jungnang Scholarship students this year so that they can develop their dreams of the future.

Scholarship recipients are ▲Students who have progressed to prestigious universities and top 5-10% of their grades (scholarship students with excellent grades) ▲Winners of various competitions such as arts and sports (special scholarship students) ▲Students within 80% of the median income and within the top 70% of grades (low-income scholarship students) ▲ Students who are recognized for good deeds, volunteer work, filial piety, and grade improvement, and children of local development contributors.

In particular, this year, the scope of support has been greatly expanded compared to last year, and more than 300 students are supported. Not only high-achieving students but also children who contributed to community development were included in the target list, and the income threshold for low-income scholarship students was increased from 70% to 80% of the median income.

Last month, the district decided to select 105 students, including 29 scholarship students who entered prestigious universities and 76 students with excellent grades within the top 5%, as the first scholarship students last month and provide them with a scholarship of KRW 113.14 million. The second scholarship students will be selected from 695 students, including top 10% students with excellent grades, low-income students, children contributing to community development, and special students from August.

The district enacted the “Jungnang-gu Scholarship Fund Establishment and Management Ordinance” in 2008 to discover and nurture outstanding talent in the region and support economically disadvantaged students. So far, about 11.7 billion won of scholarship funds have been raised, and 4,576 people have been provided with 4.65 billion won in scholarships for 10 years from 2010 to last year.

Ryu Gyeonggi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “I hope that through this scholarship support, students will be able to study without worries.” “Through the operation of the Bang Jeong-hwan Education Support Center, which opened in May, as well as scholarship support, it is possible to strengthen public education and nurture future talents. I will do my best to make it happen,” he said.

On the other hand, as a result of the district’s active efforts in education projects, such as nearly doubling the education budget during the 7th popular election, the satisfaction of the district residents’ educational environment rose from 18th in 2017 to 6th in 2020, and the Seoul 4-year university entrance rate dropped from 24% in 2018. It rose to 38% in 2020.
