Eco-friendly special pulp funeral coffin, pure domestic production with patented technology

End of worries about harmful chemicals in cremation... Pay attention to the major change in cremation and funeral culture

- Reporter Ha In-gyu

(Break News Northeast Gyeonggi) = Under the influence of traditional Confucian culture, funeral culture has favored burial in Korea, but as the number of places for burial has decreased, and the extended family-oriented society has changed to a nuclear family, the funeral culture also favors cremation. is taking place

As funeral culture has become commonplace with cremation in stores, the use of paulownia coffins used for cremation is rapidly increasing.

Among the wooden coffins used in Korea, especially paulownia coffins for cosmetic purposes, all of them are imported from foreign countries including China. As the number of deaths from COVID-19 increased, there was a shortage of crematoriums for the deceased. This was because the supply of pipes in China was not smooth.

The funeral home and crematorium for the deceased were also saturated, so it was possible to make a cremation reservation and hold a funeral after waiting for 6 days instead of 3 days.

In particular, Corona 19 patients absolutely lacked cremation coffins because they had to put on 100% cremation.

Accordingly, a domestic company developed and commercialized an eco-friendly pulp (paper) tube made of 100% pulp.

‘Honesty and Sharing’, the first social cooperative of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, said, “We replaced the paulownia coffin, which produces harmful chemical substances during cremation, with a 100% pulp (paper) eco-friendly coffin to keep the deceased clean. It was developed to accommodate them,” he said.

'Devotion and Sharing' Chairman Shim Sang-yeol warns, "As we can see from the urea water crisis and the crematorium crisis, an unstable supply that depends on imports can soon lead to a funeral crisis." The pulp (paper) tube has already become popular and is replacing the wooden tube,” he explained.

As an alternative, Chairman Shim said, “In order to replace wood coffins with pulp (paper) coffins at 62 crematoriums operated by cities and provinces across the country, an active response from the government and provincial and provincial governments is required. For cosmetic coffins, a quota system for pulp (paper) coffins and wooden coffins is necessary,” he said.

The pulp (paper) tube is not subjected to the preservative treatment and varnishing of the imported wooden tube, so it does not generate harmful chemicals during makeup. It is judged that it is not inferior to a substitute.

According to an experiment conducted by the Seoul Facilities Management Corporation’s Burial Office, an institution under the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the crematorium incineration time took 10 minutes for the paper tube and 30 minutes for the wooden tube. After more than a minute, there was incomplete combustion.

In addition, it was revealed that the cremation time was also shortened by about 20 to 40 minutes for the pulp (paper) tube compared to the wooden tube for cremation.

President A, who runs G Funeral Home in Goyang City, said, “The feeling of serving the deceased is important, not the coffin. An eco-friendly pulp (paper) tube, rather than a wooden tube that generates pollutants during cremation, will help the deceased and the bereaved.”

Director B, a funeral director who takes care of the deceased directly at the funeral home, said, “I knew that paper tubes were good for cremation, but paper tubes that have been released in the past could not be handled at funerals due to their high functions and prices. One paper tube is affordable in function, design, and most importantly, the price, so it can be actively recommended to the bereaved family.”

On the other hand, funeral managers in cities and provinces that operate crematoriums, such as Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Suwon, and Seongnam, which operate crematoriums, also emit harmful substances, and use eco-friendly pulp (paper) tubes instead of imported paulownia coffins. As we know that this is desirable from an environmental and economic point of view, attention is being paid to whether the cremation funeral culture will change from a wooden coffin to a pulp (paper) coffin.
